For various reasons, CA exams are tough. However despite of all odds – students clear the CA exams. Everyone wants to be successful and also seem to be successful. And it is a difficult thing to talk about ones failures – after one has succeeded. I highly appreciate these CAs mentioned herein, who have come forward to share their experience of failure in CA exams. Here I have compiled the experience shared by some CAs as how they worked hard and despite odds cleared the exam. Let their words speak for itself as a source of motivation for all those who are at it and who want to succeed and become CA.

I have one story of mine on becoming CA: I had completed my CA inter group wise in first attempts. I had prepared for CA final exams – nov, 2000 along with my friend AG Krishna Prasad who had already appeared final exams 5 times but could not clear and who had secured good marks in ca inter. During my final preparation I observed his command on various subjects & interpretation skills. I appeared for group-2 and he appeared for both groups. We prepared that attempt (Nov, 2000) seriously. Amazing he got 13th rank in ca final – which he deserved. But I failed and got 191 marks. I wrote both groups for may, 2001 with his moral & financial support. I failed both groups , I secured 371 marks(185 group-i, 186 group-ii). I didn’t fail in any subject. But aggregate problem. And next time too with his support I wrote both groups and secured 379 marks & cleared group-ii. And next time i.e. May, 2002 I wrote group-i but failed & scored 189. Under pressure & frustration I wrote Nov 2002 and finally I cleared and became CA.So… Friends, don’t lose patience. Write exams positively with serious preparation. Success is yours. There is a saying: “failure means delay but not defeat” but I can say ca course is a challenging course. The only thing we have to do is to face the challenge to place in the results list.
Best of luck…

On completion of the CA Inter I joined Central Govt. Job as Head of Finance and Accounts during 1994 in order to support my family financially. Imagine my position and responsibilites. Even then I didn’t want to give up CA. By taking leave only on the exam dates, I got one paper exemption in both groups in the subsequent two attemts and subsequently I cleared group 1st after 2 to 3 attempts. As I didn’t have enough time for preparations and no study or exam leaves as I was working under pressure. Then finally I decided to give my attempt for the II group without even taking leave for the exams (8-11 exam time and 11.10 I was there at office). To my great surprise I qualified in that attempt (1999) and become a CA. I also wish to share that I am the only educated person in my family and I never went to the coaching institutions or there was no body to give me guidance after my articles period.
Hence I strongly believe in COMMITMENT, DEDICATION AND WILL POWER in whatever we do apart from presence of mind and application of mind which are the prerequisites for our professional qualification as well as professional life.

I started journey of CA in 1995 by converting my medium from Hindi to English medium. Failed twice due to language. Passed Inter both group in third attempt. After that passed First group of Final in the very first attempt. But oh god second group, I tried nearly 8-10 times. Finally cleared in May 2003. Every time problem of aggregate arised. So dont worry students who failed this time. Dear, failure is the way of success.CA Anjan Kumar Verma

I was from 1992 TYBCom pass. In 1995 I managed to pass the inter CA. And till 1999 I could not clear my CA final and hence was depressed and felt the end of the world. But I did not lose heart. I had to still move on…. Married… and on my husband’s insistence, gave my final attempt for 1st group when i was 7 month pregnant. I cleared. Gave birth to my first child. And then there was still no looking back. Whenever I saw my son, I was further charged to accept more difficult challenges. And then attempted my 2nd group and cleared. There was no looking back then. I joined a corporate as a Manager and then promoted as DGM-Finance and today i work as a General manager Finance and paid well as per industry standards. And yes, I forgot to mention, I gave birth to my second daughter in 2003.My humble request to you is to take study life easy. Do not strain yourself to struggle and acheive your goal. just be focussed and dedicated and most important is keep the vision in front of your closed eyes all the time. it will keep you dedicated. And enjoy studying!

I share my experience to those who could not get through the exams. I remember in such a situation, irrespective of outcome, I used to continue my studies by attending to the coaching classes without a break, instead of waiting for results and then starting afresh (almost after two months). After 5th attempt, one fine morning, at 7:15, when we broke for a cut tea (Shah’s CA classes at Grant Road) my desk mate, as usual brought from the street vendor the ‘Financial Express’ (those days this was only source for CA results) as he was interested in shares business and casually mentioned that CA results were published. At once, to my surprise, I noticed my number (comparatively the performance was not better then earlier attempts), I simply walked into classes as the 15 minutes break time was over, and after classes were over, at Grant Road station, though it was not my turn, but volunteered and I offered vada phave followed by tea, and casually mentioned that I was not going to attend to the classes from tomorrow onwards. It was a surprise to them. To summarize, to say that continue studies without waiting for the outcome as it relieves you from anxiety and criticism (from those who cannot understand the process of CA exams).Regards.

I know it hurts like hell, I’ve been through it. I cleared my Intermediate IInd group in my 6th attempt. I could never fathom the reason I flunked a paper like Economics, and mind you I had secured an exemption in Maths/Stats and lost it.I too was from a middle class family with all the expectations of my parents & relatives and I can tell you it really pinches you when some relative who might be a clerk himself asks you “Too Phir Fail Ho Gaya? Issilye to hamare bete ne CA nahin kiya, hota to hai nahin”.
However, I did not lose my nerve because somewhere deep down inside me I knew it is a matter of time. Take my word for it, you can do it. Just don’t slip on your faith. If you cannot believe yourself, borrow some of mine. But Please keep on going with determination.
Start thinking that the Institute has reserved a membership (for you) and all you have to do is to claim it. I can tell you all this will not matter when after a few years from now you’ll be able to look back on this time and will conclude that all this slogging, frustrations and snide remarks were worth this degree.
Please don’t feel defeated, you might have lost a battle but the war is still going on. Get up and get Going.
best wishes,

…its easy to relate to the agony of youngsters… To me this (CA Exams) was just a roulette, where i had to wait for my color or number just to get things doing my way. I distinctly remember where in one of the attempts, i decided to simply write crap purposely to check whether the examiner was really a no brainer…! But then there is always a ray of light at the end of tunnel, and it really feels great when you grab that ray of light.I remember one of my friends who cleared his intermediate both the groups in first attempt and it took him 11 attempts to clear his finals and finally, today, he is top ranking financial manager in worlds largest medical supplies manufacturer.
Dont lose hope…CA Bhanu Parashar

Being a lady it was really a tough but enjoyable journey from my articleship (not dummy) to the wholetime practicising chartered accountant. If you really enjoy your line of work then success is yours. I cleared my intermediate both groups in first attempt. At that time I thought doing C.A. is a very easy job but I was wrong. In finals i understood the depth of the profession. In finals due to my costing paper i used to fail. I don’t remember how many times may be 2 or 4 . But i was fully determined to become a C.A. and I cleared my finals with 93 marks in costing. Now i remember only my 93 marks and forget the failures. One thing i must say for C.A. students that

When I joined CA in 1967, my father’s friend who visited him, naturally ask him what your son is doing? When he replied CA, what…? very difficult course..lot of relatives as well as friends children who joined CA could not complete and are now very much dejected as most of their class mates are now well employed and earning well…I was an average student…but completed inter in first attempt and Final in Second attempt and was in merit list. In the first attempt, in Group I to everybody’s surprise I got 34 marks in Accounts, whereas normally I used to score more than 70%. When I contacted the then Exec. officer Mr. Ramraj, in Chennai, if it will be of any use to get the paper revalued, he replied in negative and asked me to concentrate again. In group II, I could not get average of 50 though I got 40 and above in all 3 papers. Apart from studying hard, believe in God, He is there to take care of you…He knows what to do, when to do …and how to do…

I cleared my CA final in Nov 2009. Right back in 2004 when i appeared for CA founadtion exams I scored 91 in accounts and 19 in eco. I failed and got disappointed too. Few of my friends and relatives, who claimed that they are my best ones, adviced “…. better look for a carrer where you are sure you will succeed,- CA mai jana asan hai but complete karna mushkil, and tera to foundation hi nahi nikala…jaruri nahi sare commerce students CA bane….aur bahut course hai…hamare ladke ne to ye kiya and ye ban gaya”… and so on.Maine unki baato se hi motivation lia and decided abto CA hi karna hai, chahe jo ho jae. And here I am ….I really feel proud and satisfied when others call me CA ANKUR. This prefix is like a tonic to me and i am sure all you friends will agree with me that prefix CA gives us a new energy every time we hear it for us. So dear friend what matters is result and not the no of attempts.
As CA student ham sabhi log kitne hi baar es daur se gujre honge but if you have confidence in your self and a well planned study schedule even institute apko rook nahi sakta member banne se…GOOD LUCK AND KEEP SMILING.

Its okay if you are failing in a Professional Exams BUT more important is to hold it with the true spirit and get it completed. All the v best to all the students and you will get the success very soon , keep going.

Suggestions for Writing Answers
by CA Partha Ray
1. The students must read the questions properly.
2. They must convince the Examiner about their sound conception or approach
3. Those who write in English must think in English too and should never think in their mother tongue and translate into english this comes from practice
4. Answers must be short and to the point. Giving examples to explain adds value.
5. A Question carrying 4 Marks , 8 Marks or 16 marks must not be written in the same length. The length must be proprotionately trimmed without affecting the essence of the matter asked for. Those who answer too long, fail to complete the Full Question paper.
6. All questions must be attempted.
7. Please allow the Examiner the opportunity to award some marks for whatever is written unless what is written is totally rubbish.
8. Never pick and choose. Read all the Chapters.
9. Keep writing all that you read and correct those yourself. That will give you perfection.
10. Keep practising Accounts
11. If you have bad handwriting, start writing in bigger Font Size . Write in short and simple sentenses. Do not make your Answer Book untidy.
12. Never get nervous.
by CA Madhukar Hiregange
The common reasons as to why the students may have not done well could be as under:
1. Unreadable handwriting- especially in worksheets.
2. New developments/ amendments ignored
3. General answers – auditing
4. Not reading/ understanding question
5. Inadequate practice / working out the problems
6. The understanding of concepts may not have been focused in the coaching for some. The practical emphasis may also have caused several issues as the student may not have been have had the exposure.

I am CA final’s Students. I have pass my CA PEE-1 (Foundation) in May 2006 and PEE- 2 (CA Inter) in Nov. 2007. My first attempted of CA Final in may 2010. My family financial condition is not good and due to job, i can’t give proper time for study. This time i have no any group clear of CA fin.
so any one please give me suggestion. I am going for hopeless.
Try one group at a time. If that does not work, or if you have applied for the May 2012 exams, try to focus only on one subject and try to get exemption. The ball should start rolling.
Thank you Anup Ji for your suggestion
any other give me other suggestion please…
