i work with a bank and have recently been transferred from mumbai to chennai. my daughter is in 1st bcom in mumbai and i want to shift her to chennai. she is appearing for her PCC in may 2011 and on completing it, wants to take up CA articleship along with 2nd year bcom. while many of her friends at mumbai and bangalore are attending morning or evening classes and doing articleship simultaneously, i am unable to find any college in chennai which will permit her to do both bcom and articleship together. can you help me with any colleges in chennai who permit this.
Also, does the institute have any bar on students doing bcom and articleship together
In India, unfortunately we have still have the mindset of a degree! But the good thing for the CA student (under the current dispensation) is that to become CA one does not need to have degree! (This change was done only from the time when the PCC scheme was introduced – prior to PCC graduation was required to become CA)
read: http://indiapoint.net/ca/2008/10/31/articleship-certain-rules/#toc-ca-without-graduation
As such once one becomes CA, it hardly matters whether one holds any other qualification.
However if one is academically minded and wants to pursue PhD, then one would require to have a graduation degree (even this is as per very old agreement with AIU, but has not yet been revised)
In such case, the best thing is that instead of getting into a college for graduation, best would be to join one of the ICAI scheme for graduation degree (BCom / BBA and MCom / MBA). For this ICAI has arrangement with IGNOU, Bharthiar Univ and NSOU

The advantage of such course is that the student will not have to unnecessarily study the technical subjects and only will have to appear for papers like English / Hindi / etc – to get the degree! The papers of PCC / IPCC being considered as student having passed papers of BCom / BBA and passing Final papers would be considered as if student has appeared in papers of MCom /MBA.
As such CA student can get direct admission to PhD of different universities of India (including IIMs)

To your other query – the student “during articleship” can take up only “one additional course” – this course can be BCom / any Graduation course/ PG course / CS / CWA

Sir i am in last year of my articleship and i have taken transfer due to my father’s posting to another city. The date of transfer is 27th Nov 2010. I have sent documents i.e,form 109,principal recommendation letter, reason for transfer letter and proof of my father posting on 28th Dec 2010.
Mumbai branch has received it on 7th Jan 2011. mumbai branch has told me that they have sent the documents to delhi for presidents approval as it is my final year of articleship.
Today its 7th feb 2011 and till now they have not confirmed my transfer and because of it i have not registered my self to any other principal in the new city. I want to ask will these two and a half months will be treated as extension and if yes if its a delay from there side why i have to bear it.
I am really afraid of this much of gap in articleship, what will be the consequces of it. Is there are any rules in regard to delay in joining articleship again.
I am really afraid that this should not ruin my articleship of 2.5 years which i have done. and what if delhi branch will not approve my transfer?
please help me sir.
Well, you have done the wrong procedure. The correct procedure was to send a request forwarded/signed by your Principal along with the documents (proofs) for request for transfer. When the approval letter would come, thereafter send the Form 109 along with copy of the approval letter.
This procedure is very clearly mentioned in the ICAI circular
http://icai.org/resource_file/19592announ10698.pdf
ICAI clearly mentions
However, the procedure you have adopted – there is nothing for you but to wait. Because as its your Dad’s transfer, you would get the transfer. But since you have already sent the Form 109, the date on Form 109 would be considered for the purpose of transfer.
I would suggest you write to the President, and central council members from your region directly urging them to look into the matter and expedite the approval for transfer.

There would not be much problem, because there is no limitation of gap between joining articleship. It won’t ‘ruin’ you articleship. Only that your articleship period would get delayed by so much of time – and depending on the situation, it may affect your appearance in exam for May 2011. So, better send the urgent messages / emails to people as listed in the above link – so that at least you are able to join articleship so as to be eligible to appear in the May 2011 exams.
To your other question – if Delhi doesn’t approve your transfer – then you are in articleship under the same Principal – only that the Principal would be counting so much of leave from the date of signing of Form 109 when you did not attend office.
Sir thanks for answering my query yesterday.
Today when i have called the Mumbai branch regarding approval of my transfer, they said that it is yet to be approved but they have asked me to re register my self and send form 102 and 103.It is because i have to give PCE May 2011 Attempt.
They are saying that my transfer will soon get approved but because of this exam form emergencie they asking me for re registration as well as i should send the exam form signed by new pricipal.
Is this process valid?or should i wait for confirmation?
From where i can confirm the process, because it is all telephonic conversation and nothing in written. If it is valid process can u please tell me the process of re registration?
Go ahead and join firm of your choice at the place of your Dad’s transfer.
The procedure is perfectly valid. Infact this is the procedure even today. Even in case of permission, once one has the permission letter, then one has to follow this.
For detailed procedure read:

No you cannot do any business. While during articleship you cannot be proprietor / partner /director.
Dear Sir
I want to ask that I have completed my articleship in june 2002 and have not cleared any group of CA
I want to know can I appear for the IPCC exam to be held in may 2011 and what is the procedure for appearing
Rgds Anand
You have to reactivate your registration by paying requisite fee
Since you completed your articleship in 2002, that means you would also need the new SRN

Can i act as a sleeping partner? plz reply
Yes thats possible.
You can find the details at http://www.icai.org/post.html?post_id=816
SIR will i be able to do articleship in big4 with the above score – 1st group 215 and 2nd group 161
Why not? Try applying to them and see the response. Also, dont forget to explore the ICAI Articles placement system http://bosapp.icai.org/ You can get good firms there also
sir, i have cleared ipcc both group, and now want to join articleship, i m doing work under a ca firm from 2 months before on mutual understanding. i want to know that can i get the credit of these 2 months in my articleship time period, if yes, please explain the procedure.
As per ICAI rules you cannot get credit. Some CAs may accomodate such situation by giving the Article such extra leave during actual training period – but all these are mutual arrangements – and outside the rules of ICAI.
The training period under no circumstance can be lessened. So for example, if you have joined 3 yr articleship 1 Jan, 2011, your articleship would complete only on 31 Dec, 2013. Your eligibility to appear in final would also be determined accordingly.
I have cleared my ipcc 1st group in aug 2010 & 2nd group in feb 2011 and doing articleship since august 2010 now i want to registered in final course. what is the form no and what is the registration fees and what is the last date for registration. and can form will be downloaded from the website.
