Articleship can be done anytime if you are eligible. However one should know that in the past 10 years, ICAI has changed the CA scheme of exams and training four times. Usually there is sort of grace period of usually a year – but after that conversion to the new scheme becomes compulsory. So the ‘problem’ can be this issue depending on your ‘long gap’

I would suggest that first find a job and also simultaneously finish BCom

Starting everything is good – that would depend on your family support.

Also sense of responsibility and competence (ability) are two different things. It is easy to find situations in our own lives where we have done a thing with responsibility – but we simply lacked ability to do that – and that lead to undesired outcome.

So while you finish your BCom see how good you are for commerce field – try to see whether you really “love” it. If you can find any CA firm that gives proper pay to its employees, you can even join it to gain experience and also see for yourself how the system works.

For working in CA Firm you dont need to have any IPCC. In the market (employment) its not qualification but competence that matters.

Qualifications are needed only for purposes of expert jobs.

The usual accounting jobs are not exactly expert jobs – as I wrote in previous comment http://indiapoint.net/ca/2009/09/22/icai-atc/comment-page-3/#comment-5870

You can work as full time employee even without being a CA

I have even seen accountants working in private companies who have qualification BA (Political Science) and they are earning around 12,000 per month in mofussil towns ! And without any prior training, doing their work on the job, they have become experts in Tally !

The rule as it seems is that the training for ATC cannot be set-off with Articleship under IPCC

Under Intermediate / PE2 / PCC the set-off is possible. Reply to Q 36 of the ATC FAQ says:

Students who have completed their articleship under Intermediate/ PE-II/ PCC need not to undergo 1 year work experience for ATC certificate.

Actually whose concept is accounting technician course conducted by chartered institute of India , may be some of the erst while board of studies of ICAI.

I shall recommend the ICAI to take personal Interview and viva followed by marks that to add the students total marks then declare pass/fail and 1st , 2nd, etc. ranks. Because the 1st 50 rank holders have no basic common sense how to interact with the people.

- Student has to register himself for ATC
- He has to undergo 1 year work experience
- Orientation Programme and 100 Hours ITT completion certificates issued for IPCC are valid for ATC course also.

In Answer to Q 34, ICAI says – for ATC certificate candidate has to undergo 1 year work experience, which is separate from 3 years article ship under IPCC

Apart from that, if one enrols for ATC, only one year training is required – and that can be done under a CA working in industry (just like industrial training)

The flip side is that if one enrolls specifically for ATC and does the one year training, and thereafter decides to do CA, that one year of training is not set off -instead, one has to do full three years training as per provisions of CA

I guess you can get ATC, if you have finished with your articleship training

But now a days ICAI does carry out a placement program for the ATC holders!

i can tell you only about ATC as i’m doing it.

have you cleared CPT exam? if not you are new for this so firstly contact with branch of ICAI (http://www.icai.org) near your residence and get all information about enrollment for CPT exam.

if you have cleared CPT, then appear in (1) IPCC I Group (ATC Exam) (2) complete 100 hours computer training, and (3) one week Orientation Course.
