ICAI: Accounting Technician Certificate (ATC)

ATC is an interesting innovation of ICAI. I don’t know what went into thinking of the institute – but they reformed the course – from Inter to PE2 to PCC to IPCC. This IPCC is the latest avatar of inter and incorporates the ATC – short for Accounting Technician Certificate.

Frankly – I could not understand the usefulness of it. But since ICAI was distributing the certificate – I also applied.

One can say – its like diploma of CA ! But then it seems to be of no practical use – as non-CAs those who are in this line work as entrepreneur accountants – and don’t need any certificate! Also, I have not seen any job ad asking for ATC – though some who require semi-qualified CAs might start advertising for ATCs now!

Seen from other aspect perhaps the ICAI wants to limit number of passing out CAs – and boost the importance of its members!

(Though on serious note – it seems to be a concerted policy of the accounting bodies of India – as ICWAI also has a similar sounding certificate – which they call CAT !)

So the certificate arrived after nearly three months – I had even forgotten that I had applied for it!

For those who have completed articleship and passed inter/pe2 etc. can apply for it.

One can fill the online form from link on this page or use the pdf form or word/doc file.

Old students who want this certificate might read this announcement of ICAI from this link.

Whether you use the online form or the printable pdf form –

1) You have to take out the printed copy of the form with your details – or you can write your details in clean handwriting in the form

2) Attach copy of self-attested articleship completion certificate and mark-sheet of inter as proof of passing it.

3) Send it to the regional office of ICAI under whose jurisdiction you presently live.

The certificate will arrive in due course!

UPDATE

ATC under the New Scheme (IPCC of ICAI)

For the ATC one has to pass the Group 1 of IPCC. The training has to be taken for one year. However, in this case the training can be taken under a CA in Practice or a CA in Industry (just like industrial training). Also the student has to pass a computer course and an orientation course conducted by ICAI. For ATC candidates usually the starting salary is like Rs. 15,000 + per month in metro centers. ICAI also conducts placement services for ATCs. Besides one can also use the online placement portals to get jobs.

Simply stated under IPCC:

IPCC Grp 1 + ITT + OC + 1 Yr training (under CA Firm or under CA in industry) = ATC

Details of ATC can be had from the following ICAI link:

  1. I hav done b.b.a… and want to do C.A.. but I have only one year more to do any course .. so can I apply For this course and after doing this course will it be worth in future, like for job ?

    • You cant do CA in 1 yr. Even in ATC, I guess from enrolement to completion would take more than a calendar year. As to its worth, dont know ! I guess one can get 10 – 15k per month job with this..

  2. Dear Suman.

You may join this course but you must know that chartered accountancy course cannot done in a year this is totally correspondance course. This course takes minimum 3.5 years.

sir, i have passed IPCC both groups in nOV 2011…..so should i fill up my final registration form and articleship form before 30 april….is there any such rule

    • There is no such rule. However if you join articleship before Apr 30 your Final would become due in Nov 2014 attempt.

  4. Hello Sir,

I have completed both the groups of IPCC in November 2010, and is presently pursuing articleship under a Chartered Accountant for over an year now. I had ticked the box containing (IPCC AND ATC) in the examination application form and in the registration form. My question to you now is :
    1. Can I apply now for ATC certificate online?
    2. Will application for ATC disqualify me from attempting CA Final?

As far as I know the training requirement under IPCC for ATC is separate, and cannot be clubbed with articleship. ie. 1 year training for ATC is separate from 3 yrs training for articleship – and no set-off is available.
