ATC is an interesting innovation of ICAI. I don’t know what went into thinking of the institute – but they reformed the course – from Inter to PE2 to PCC to IPCC. This IPCC is the latest avatar of inter and incorporates the ATC – short for Accounting Technician Certificate.
Frankly – I could not understand the usefulness of it. But since ICAI was distributing the certificate – I also applied.
One can say – its like diploma of CA ! But then it seems to be of no practical use – as non-CAs those who are in this line work as entrepreneur accountants – and don’t need any certificate! Also, I have not seen any job ad asking for ATC – though some who require semi-qualified CAs might start advertising for ATCs now!
Seen from other aspect perhaps the ICAI wants to limit number of passing out CAs – and boost the importance of its members!
(Though on serious note – it seems to be a concerted policy of the accounting bodies of India – as ICWAI also has a similar sounding certificate – which they call CAT !)
So the certificate arrived after nearly three months – I had even forgotten that I had applied for it!

I want to know that after geting this certificate
can we print on our visiting card as CERTIFIED ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN
ICAI has issued guideline relating to use of CA as prefix and ACA/FCA as suffix and for qualification of DISA. However, as far as I know, there is no guideline for ATC. Therefore, I guess, you can use it as you please – perhaps even as – Accounting Technician (Certified by ICAI) or even as Accountant (Certified by ICAI). I guess you can also write Certified Accountant. Till you dont use the words “Chartered Accountant” or its short forms like CA/ACA/FCA everything is fine.
