A few weeks back we went to Bhedaghat. The Narmada river seemed to be at its furious best. Usually Jan / Feb months are best for visiting such places. Some of the snapshots of the river below:

The ropeway has increased the tourist attraction – by making the view of Narmada river more accessible and a pleasant ride. The ropeway is managed by some Kolkata company.
In recent times – there is one campaign going on Clean Narmada and Green Jabalpur – which has taken up a good work. Rivers as such near cities have become depositories of waste from around the city as well as an open field for religious waste being dumped into it. Its high time that we re-orient our religious practices to more environment friendly ones.
Also, from tourism point of view, recently Jabalpur is having ‘camp’ of adventure tourism in the form of hot-air-baloon and para gliding / para sailing. It would be interesting to visit that and have a ride. It is being done currently near Bargi Dam. It is also proposed to develop adventure tourism in Jabalpur – that would be really great if it is done on a regular basis.
Another place that I havn’t visited and would like to visit is the Dumna Nature Park which is being developed by the Municiple Corporation of Jabalpur. It seems that it is not yet developed in the way a proper place of tourism is required.
Update: I visited Dumna Nature Park recently (July 2011), and I must say, it has been developed in a very nice way. There is khandari lake, toy train ride, wild animals, refreshment center of MP Tourism – and clean air and green grass. Images from Dumna Nature Park
A nice green and clean place near Jabalpur is the Bargi Dam. This place also has a MP Tourism Hotel having boarding and lodging facility. The place, I visited nearly a year back – and it really looked nice retreat outside the city.
Update: Another interesting picnic spot further to Bargi Dam is Payali. It is a very picturesque place – and it being far and road being kutccha, one has to go early in the day.
All these are making Jabalpur a nice place to go on weekend retreat. Apart from the city being developed as a Medical and Educational Hub – it has good potential of being developed as a Tourism Hub as it has lots of History / Religion / Wildlife / Forests in and around it.

It is very beautiful – more pictures pls
