Kangaroo Kids Jabalpur on Picasa

Sometime back, the Principal Smt. Charanjit Matharu had told me that the school had decided to open a Picasa account. This was due to the fact that there were so many photographs being taken of different activities being undertaken during school hours – that it became difficult for them to keep track of all the images and also the persistent request of parents for the photographs. Today, we were given the circular letting us know the picasa link.

Update: (July 2011): The new Picasa site for Kangaroo Kids Jabalpur is:

(not sure who came up with the idea of such a human unfriendly url – obviously someone is managing the web, who is still in the learning curve!)

I welcome this step on part of the school. I also appreciate the fact, that the images have been annotated with descriptions of various activities that has been captured in the image. This must have been quite a hardwork for one doing that! Perhaps, the photographs should also have a byline “Kangaroo Kids Jabalpur” and “Session” – that would make a true archive of images.

I also appreciate the fact that the school has opened different galleries for the kid students. However, I find that there are certain mistakes in spelling of different students – and I hope that it would be corrected. For example Isha is spelt as Easha – which is quite off the mark.

Also, a better way might have been to open gallery for each class per session and upload the relevant images there. This is because, I found that on many occasions, the same image had been uploaded to different gallery.

Also, I personally would have preferred an “Unlisted” setting and not a “Public” setting. Picasa does allow for this in its setting with ‘Unlisted’ and ‘Sign in required to view’. Also, I hope, that the school buys a Pro a/c of Picasa, as free a/c is limited to only 1GB space!

The school is definitely becoming tech savvy. The small children are anyway not much articulate in explaining of what happens during school hours – it is indeed a pleasure for the parents to get to know what activities their children are doing during school hours through these images. Perhaps, this would also make many parents become tech savvy as well.
