Wild, whacky, and hilarious -- thats how I would describe “3 Idiots”. Having read the book -- 5 Point Someone (Chetan Bhagat), on which the movie is based, I would say, the events in the book were only episodic for the film. The film by itself was quite original in its thinking -- the storyline being quite different -- eventhough the setting of the story was taken from the book. The film takes entertainment to a new high. Even things that we might consider vulgar, have been dealt in such a hilarious way that one cannot stop smiling.
The film also has breath-taking sceneries from Himachal and Ladakh -- when the two ‘idiots’ go to search for ‘Rancho’ -- being played by Aamir Khan. The film does have certain hidden messages for the youth -- that are quite timely -- both in assessment of the educational system and one’s own objectives in life.
For those who are out of their youth -- this is pure entertainment -- full of fun and and melodrama turned hilarious. I would say -- this movie is better than Aamir’s any previous films (except for Taare Zameen Par and Sarfarosh -- which was a different platter altogether -- and also my personal favourite). The cast of Madhavan, Sherman, Karina, Boman and others play their part extremely fine -- though Boman Irani seemed much better in Munna Bhai.
The genre of the film- I would put- in line of Munnabhai -- except this one dealt with Engineers. The songs may not be great, but hummable, and fit into the film. Also, one would be an idiot to try to find logic in the events of the film. Its just fun produced well -- Aal izz well!
