Internet has moved in leaps and it has had its bouts of fads. At one time it was MillionDollarHomepage – everyone got crazy.
Then there was the social bookmarking phase. Suddenly one could see all sorts of cute icons on various websites – that would leave one bewildered.
And then one fine day it was LinkedIn phenomena – and suddenly everyone was on the bandwagon.
Then there was the Orkut phase – and everyone seemed to be ‘messaging’ on Orkut.
Now that there has been replication and proliferation of such sites – that one cannot even remember so many names – then Twitter happened.
By its very nature it is ingenious. It not only plays to the basic human instinct to speak and express – but also to listen and network.
And some have found innovative uses of Twitter – its no longer just ‘what are you doing’ thing – but a lot more of communication – even making it a tool for doing business.

I recently registered for Twitter and FaceBook – and I must say they are really nice and interesting. However – while it may be the happening things for the connected people of the West or the tech savvy people of bigger cities in India – yet – for many this is not the case.
But then it still is a communication revolution of sorts.
The most interesting thing is the kind of communication models they are based on. While Twitter is an open broadcast model with options of privacy – FaceBook thing is a closed model with options of degrees of openness – which is quite similar to Orkut. However the interface of FaceBook is much better than Orkut interface.
The good thing about these ‘social network’ is sharing – which is more important for an open and understanding world.
